Employment tips

Gradgrad focuses all its energies on employment for university graduates and students only. We believe you are the most important group of people to us and the future.
Below we have detailed some advice that will help with your graduate employment prospects.

Graduates

If you haven't already you should sign up, create your gradgrad CV and provide as much detail about your studies as you can.
Selecting your job preferences lets employers know what jobs and industries you are interested in before they contact you.
Adding your course details including your university, course name, majors and minors allows employers to search for students from your university that have completed a particular course, major or minor.
Adding your academic results and academic awards allows you to distinguish yourself from other graduates. You have the potential to set yourself apart from the rest to employers here!
Once you have already signed up and created a gradgrad CV you are being proactive with your future and career, you are advertising yourself to employers. When employers do contact you, gradgrad suggests the following;
  • research the prospective employer - show them you know a little about them
  • ask questions
  • what type of work will I be doing as a graduate?
  • what career advancement and training opportunities will you provide me with?
  • prepare for your interviews
  • dress professionally
  • smile when you greet someone, look them in the eyes and shake hands firmly. Show them you are confident.
  • when you get the opportunity to be more creative and expressive, do it. Distinguish yourself, make yourself more memorable.

Current and new university students

Half way through your degree or only just started university?
Well the best time to start thinking about your future employment is now. The sooner you show and advertise yourself to employers, the more opportunities you will have when you are closer to graduating. You might even find that you have been offered a job one or two years before you're going to graduate!
You can start off by creating your online CV with gradgrad and adding your degree details, results, awards, preferences, skills and experience. The more information you add about yourself the more likely it is that an employer will contact you.
